DBU project on phosphorus recycling in organic farming concluded

Bioland Beratung GmbH, Kompetenz Zentrum Wasser Berlin gGmbH and IASP jointly emphasised the need to further close nutrient cycles in organic agriculture. The struvite produced in sewage treatment plants would offer a possibility to bring the nutrient phosphorus, which is discharged with human food, back to organic fields. The necessary amendment to the EU organic regulation has already been applied for; the Nurec4Org project actively supported the development through scientific monitoring and communication between organic farmers, sewage treatment plant operators and fertiliser manufacturers.
