As part of the Central Innovation Program for SMEs (ZIM) and the “BikeLane” FuE-project, a sustainable cycle path was developed that consists entirely of recycled materials and renewable raw materials. This helps to prevent land degradation and land sealing in cities - both of which are crucial for the urban climate. The use of recycled materials is particularly encouraged by the Substitute Building Materials Ordinance, which came into force in August 2023.
✅ Material composition: The base layer consists of crushed concrete and recycled sand. The top layer contains a biogenic binder that ensures high water permeability and load-bearing capacity. This formula meets the latest technological requirements and was developed using special HanseGrand software.
Innovative properties: The bonded construction and the specially developed binder enable a high surface shear strength of over 112 kN/m² and guarantee a water permeability of ≥ 15 mm/h, even in heavy rainfall. This reduces the need for maintenance and increases the service life of the cycle path.
✅ Market potential: The market launch is planned for 2024, with great potential in Germany and Europe. Initial test routes have received a positive response, and the aim is to increase sales by over EUR 3 million per year.
📊 The ZIM Innovation Network: The aim of the network is to develop innovative and practical solutions for urban climate problems such as flood protection and noise reduction. Collaboration between companies and research institutions promotes initiatives that foster climate-friendly innovations.
The project was funded by the BMWK as part of the Central Innovation Program for SMEs (ZIM).
